There are great truck shows, there are big auto shows, and then there's the SEMA Show. The SEMA Show is a gearhead's dream come true. This show isn't open to the public, but it represents the best of all genres of automotive customization and it's not just about the trucks. Every hot new tool or must-have part to customize your truck is on hand for five days of viewing and drooling pleasure in Sin City, Las Vegas, Nevada. The personalities and craftsmen responsible for the baddest custom trucks on the planet are also onhand to meet and greet the showgoers. There are celebrity car aficionados, beautiful models, and aisles of custom coolness for days. It's paradise inside a massive convention center infused with overpriced hot dogs and beer.
Sport Truck has been covering this show since the early '90s when no other truck rag cared to spotlight the industry trade show. Since then, every magazine on the planet has chosen to flock to Vegas for the show and the party. This year proved the appetite for custom trucks hasn't waned, even in the face of war, obscene gas-price increases, and a stock market credit crisis. The numbers don't lie. There were 130,000 spectators, 2,000 show vehicles, and 2,200 vendors on hand. Toyota Motor Corp. was the big sponsor and once again had its off- road proving ground outside the convention center, where you could take a testdrive in a new Tundra or Tacoma on real dirt. We camped out for a full week to photograph trucks for feature articles and to get the dirt on the best parts of the show. Check it out.
Around The Show 1. These 30-inch wheels look huge on this Chevy... oh wait, the wheels are gigantic anyway. | 2. We were diggin' on Jason's big lifted Ford with its huge tires and full-custom suspension. | 3. Priscilla Fullmer's '07 GMC turned out pretty damn good with a sweet flame job from Vandemon. |
